UK  2012

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel follows a group of British retirees who decide to “outsource” their retirement to less expensive and seemingly exotic India. Enticed by advertisements for the newly restored Marigold Hotel and bolstered with visions of a life of leisure, they arrive to find the palace a shell of its former self.  A sharp comedy with a cast that is like being in the company of old friends, sheer  delight.

Local Cinema Win National Award
On Saturday the 22nd of September Colinsburgh Community Cinema was awarded the ‘Filmbank Audience Award’ at the British Federation of Film Societies Annual Conference in London. The award was set up and sponsored by national film distribuors ‘Filmbank’ who oversee the distribution of screening licences for most of the major studios.

Peter Marshall, Chair of Colinsburgh Community Cinema’ said, ‘It was a very easy award to apply for. Filmbank sent us an e-mail to forward to our members asking them to complete the phrase: “Our community cinema is important to the people in our local community because….” and they did the rest.’  Peter admitted that at the ceremony he had forgotten about the award. ‘We were in for the Community Cinema Award’ which we didn’t win and so when they announced the Audience Award I thought I wonder who has won that?  As Majella Griffin the head of Filmbank  started quoting the e-mails they had received it suddenly dawned on me that Majella was talking about Colinsburgh.’
The award came with a generous £1,000 cheque. Peter added, ‘We haven’t worked out what we will do with the money yet, maybe some extra films this season, possibly a permanent screen. What makes it special is that the award was won by our members and it is good to know that they value what we are doing.’
The next screening of Colinsburgh Community Cinema at the Town Hall is ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ screening on Friday October the 12th at 7.30. £4.00 non members.
