Biopics tend to make light of the shortcomings of their subjects and magnify their achievements. Mat Whitecross does neither. It is arguable that this film is as much an analysis of the selfdestructive nature of genius than a biopic and uses the life of Ian Dury as its argument.

Dury was a brilliant musician and showman. He was charismatic but also capable of psychological cruelty; generous and yet totally self‐centred. This a fascinating film that charts the rise to fame of a man physically damaged by polio as a child but who had the strength and selfish, single‐mindedness to succeed in the tough unforgiving world of rock music.

Perfect Sunday – Premiere

Our short film this week is by some of  the young people that we work with at the Guerilla Film School. This two minute film is their entry for the First Light/Sunday Times competition on the subject of a “A Perfect Sunday”.

Filmed on location in Leven, it examines a day in the life of a young homeless man, sleeping rough in the middle of winter, a chance find, and the unlooked for kindness of strangers…

Written and directed by Caitlin Sneddon
Starring Marcus Copinger
