Keaton, a young railroad engineer, is prevented from enlisting in the Confederate Army because of his profession. Believing him a coward, his girlfriend leaves him.
Set against the railroads and our hero’s other great love, a locomotive called “the General”
As the opening screening of our FILM EXTRA! programme, the pianist Dave Watt will provide live piano accompaniment to theis silent classic.
There will also be a screening of the rarely seen Mike Leigh short “A Sense of History“, a brilliant satire written and performed by Jim Broadbent.
